Announcing the ensemble for the 2025 Trinacria Festival Residency production: Dina & Clarenza

We are thrilled to announce the exceptional cast for our upcoming production exploring the legend of Dina and Clarenza, two courageous women who defended the city of Messina from a siege in the 13th century. Their bravery has echoed through history, becoming a symbol of resistance and resilience.

After an extensive audition process with over 30 talented actors from at least eight different countries, we are proud to present this diverse and dynamic ensemble. We were blown away by the talent, passion, and creativity displayed by everyone who auditioned, and we are deeply grateful to all those who shared their artistry with us.

This is truly an ensemble cast. Each of these performers will be spending 18 days in residency in the village of Pezzolo, working together and immersed in the local community to craft the story of Dina and Clarenza from the ground up, using a wide range of theatrical techniques. Together, they will bring this legendary tale to life with fresh perspectives, innovative storytelling, and powerful performances.

Siamo entusiasti di annunciare il cast eccezionale per la nostra prossima produzione che esplorerà la leggenda di Dina e Clarenza, due donne coraggiose che difesero la città di Messina da un assedio nel XIII secolo. Il loro coraggio ha riecheggiato attraverso la storia, diventando un simbolo di resistenza e resilienza.

Dopo un ampio processo di audizioni, che ha visto la partecipazione di oltre 30 talentuosi attori provenienti da almeno otto paesi diversi, siamo orgogliosi di presentare questo ensemble diversificato e dinamico. Siamo rimasti colpiti dal talento, dalla passione e dalla creatività dimostrati da tutti coloro che hanno fatto le audizioni, e siamo profondamente grati a tutti coloro che hanno condiviso la loro arte con noi.

APRIL SINGLEY (SHE/HER)

A New England native, April trained at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, obtaining her MFA in Acting after more than a decade of film and theatre work, and many many Shakespeare productions.  April is now based in the UK. She is a founding member of two theatrical organisations based in Portsmouth, England: The Crowbait Club (for the development of new writing) and also Mary Rose Productions (working to bridge gaps for early career creatives to connect with industry professionals.) April's upcoming role is Leila in Mary Rose Production's Cougar, a play about climate change and consumption, by Rose Lewenstein.

Nativa del New England, April si è formata al Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, conseguendo un MFA in Recitazione dopo oltre un decennio di lavoro nel cinema e nel teatro, e molte, moltissime produzioni shakespeariane. Ora April risiede nel Regno Unito. È membro fondatore di due organizzazioni teatrali con sede a Portsmouth, Inghilterra: The Crowbait Club (per lo sviluppo di nuove scritture) e Mary Rose Productions (che mira a creare connessioni per i creativi all'inizio della carriera con professionisti del settore). EMI WHITFIELD (SHE/HER) - ASSISTANT DIRECTOR IN TRAINING, BRANDEIS TRAINING PROGRAM

Emi is currently an undergraduate student at Brandeis University, where she is studying English and flute performance, with a minor in Italian Studies. Past experiences include stage management for school productions, and she is very excited to be joining the Trinacria team as the Assistant Director.

Emi è attualmente una studentessa universitaria alla Brandeis University, dove studia Inglese e Flauto, con un minore in Studi Italiani. Ha esperienza come direttrice di scena per produzioni scolastiche e non vede l'ora di unirsi al team di Trinacria come Assistente Regista. 

GIOVANNA CRISCUOLO (SHE/HER)

Giovanna was born in Catania on May 13, 1975. In 1993 she attended courses and workshops in body expression, theater and theatrical improvisation. Not yet of age, she began to tread the boards of the stage alternating serious shows with those of a lighter genre, such as variety, musicals and cabaret. For several years she was a radio speaker and her voice is still chosen today to create corporate audio, advertising, documentaries and audiobooks. Director, author and actress of theater and cinema, she chose for the first time to take on the role of writer with the novel Rifrangenza, written in collaboration with Filippo di Mauro, published by Ali Ribelli Editions.

Giovanna è nata a Catania il 13 maggio 1975. Nel 1993 ha frequentato corsi e workshop di espressione corporea, teatro e improvvisazione teatrale. Non ancora maggiorenne, ha iniziato a calcare le scene alternando spettacoli seri a quelli di genere più leggero, come varietà, musical e cabaret. Per diversi anni è stata speaker radiofonica e la sua voce è ancora oggi scelta per realizzare audio aziendali, pubblicità, documentari e audiolibri. Regista, autrice e attrice di teatro e cinema, ha scelto per la prima volta di cimentarsi come scrittrice con il romanzo "Rifrangenza", scritto in collaborazione con Filippo di Mauro e pubblicato da Ali Ribelli Edizioni.

JANAE THOMPSON (SHE/HER)

Janae is a theatrical performer and filmmaker from Hampton Roads, Virginia. Recent performance credits include As You Like It (The Z), Fat Ham (VSC/Firehouse Theater), Imagine (REACH at Kennedy Center), Rathskeller (The Z), The Little Mermaid (VMT), Refraction of Light (The Z) and the Inheritance Theatre Project’s Emmy Award-winning Exodus: Homecoming. In the theatrical community, she serves as Communications Coordinator for ROŪGE: Theater Reinvented, collaborator of UPAC, and Repertory Member for the Canady Foundation for the Arts.  In 2022 Janae was selected as a New Orleans Film Society Producers Lab Fellow and currently serves on the Advisory Council for Gen MOCA (Virginia Museum of Contemporary Arts) and WHRO’s Emerging Leaders Board. JESS MAY-COX

Jess is a theatre maker, performer and facilitator from North Devon, UK. She makes ensemble based, music led theatre, outdoor work, and solo shows. Jess grew up along the North Devon coast, and much of her work is inspired by the sea and the tales of the people who live by (and maybe even in) it and loves weaving together storytelling and music in her work.

Jess è una creatrice teatrale, performer e facilitatrice proveniente dal North Devon, Regno Unito. Crea spettacoli teatrali basati sull'ensemble, guidati dalla musica, spettacoli all'aperto e performance soliste. Cresciuta lungo la costa del North Devon, gran parte del suo lavoro è ispirato al mare e alle storie delle persone che vivono (e forse persino abitano) vicino a esso. MARIAGRAZIA LA FAUCI (SHE/HER) - PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Mariagrazia is the founder and Artistic Director of Trinacria Theatre Company. Born in Boston, she graduated from Brown University with her BA in History of Art & Architecture and later transplanted to London to receive her Masters with Distinction in Theatre Directing from LAMDA. She now lives in Pezzolo in Messina, Sicily, with her fiancé and two black cats.

Mariagrazia è la fondatrice e Direttrice Artistica della Trinacria Theatre Company. Nata a Boston, si è laureata alla Brown University in Storia dell'Arte e Architettura e successivamente si è trasferita a Londra per conseguire un Master con Lode in Regia Teatrale presso LAMDA. Ora vive a Pezzolo, Messina, in Sicilia, con il suo fidanzato e due gatti neri.

RONAN QUINIOU (HE/HIM)

Ronan is a French and French-Canadian multilingual performer and global artist. Having grown up internationally (Latvia, The US, Russia, France, Scotland) his artistry intertwines language, culture, and identity to foster cross-cultural gaps. Now based in London, Ronan’s stage credits include a European tour of Moliere’s Le Malade Imaginaire (ADG/ Théâtre du Héron), The Wizard of Oz (Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds), and screen roles such as French hacker Mael in The Inside Man: Season 6, and a Russian police officer in an upcoming feature film. Ronan is so excited to join the ensemble, collaborate during the festival, and engage with the local community.

Cresciuto in diversi paesi (Lettonia, Stati Uniti, Russia, Francia, Scozia), la sua arte intreccia lingua, cultura e identità per colmare i divari interculturali. SOPIKO TSABADZE (SHE/HER)

Sopo trained at the University of Missouri, Kansas City Conservatory. Her theatre credits include Motherf***er with the Hat, Everybody, Six Characters in Search of an Author and Top Girls. She was born in Tbilisi, Georgia where she currently lives! Sopo is fluent in Georgian, Russian and English. When she’s not acting, she enjoys painting, taking photos and cooking for her family.

Sopo ha studiato presso il Conservatorio dell'Università del Missouri, Kansas City. I suoi crediti teatrali includono Motherf***er with the Hat, Everybody, Sei Personaggi in Cerca d’Autore, e Top Girls. È nata a Tbilisi, Georgia, dove attualmente vive. SRI PECK (SHE/THEY)

Sri Peck is an actor, singer, and digital artist. She recently graduated from the University of Minnesota's BFA Actor Training Program (2025). Their work spans theater, digital art, and experimental storytelling. Some of her recent work includes: The Ferryman at Park Square Theatre (regional premiere), A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie Theater (understudy), and Henry V with the Royal Shakespeare Company (performed at Hoxton Hall in London).

Sri Peck è un'attrice, cantante e artista digitale. Si è recentemente diplomata al BFA Actor Training Program dell'Università del Minnesota (2025). Il suo lavoro spazia tra teatro, arte digitale e narrazione sperimentale.
