Trinacria Theatre Company is currently undertaking a new and ambitious large-scale project which will lead the audience through an immersive experience through time and space. This piece uses three Sicilian myths of interracial romance as its starting point, all three of which have left an indelible mark on Sicilian culture: Hades & Persephone, Mata & Grifone, and Lisabetta & Lorenzo. The production explores the impact of a forbidden relationship that ripples through history, from the ancient gods through the middle ages, unraveling into the modern day. The Hades & Persephone project leads its audience into the underworld and back again in a centuries-long journey through love and violence, life and death.
The Hades & Persephone Project began development in London, June 2019 with the support of CLF Art Café, Peckham. Development on the piece is on-going in July & August 2019 during residency in Pezzolo, Sicily.
A 45-minute workshop focused on the Hades & Persephone myth was presented at Villa Melania Cultural reFactory in Pistunina, Messina at sunset on August 4th, 2019.
