2025 FESTIVAL RESIDENCY AUDITION FAQS

  • Seeking a company of 6 - 8 adult actors and artists with strong creative capabilities, a thirst for adventure, and a hunger to encounter new cultures. Company members will act as a creative ensemble with no distinction between director, designer, and performer. All ensemble members will contribute creatively to the formation of the piece, participate in research, and bring their expertise and experience to the creative process.

We are looking for theatre makers and performers with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests in various aspects of performance - dance, music, singing, devising, improv, Commedia, acrobatics, yoga, clowning, puppeteering, mask, movement, design, gymnastics, juggling, snorkeling, trick skateboarding - whatever.

A willingness to learn, teach, and live as a community is a must.

  • Schedule: This is an intensive experience with extended working hours to help you make the most of your time in Sicily. We structure our day to follow the local custom of a larger mid-day meal and rest in the afternoon, during the hottest part of the day. Below is what a sample daily schedule may look like:

    • 8am - 9am: Breakfast on your own (self-serve)

    • 9am - 10am: Workshop led by a member of the cohort

    • 10am - 1pm: Exercises & rehearsal

    • 1pm - 2pm: Communal lunch

    • 2pm - 4pm: Break for rest (or journaling, exploring, meditation, etc.)

    • 4pm - 7pm: Continued rehearsals

    • 7pm - 7:30pm: Evening reflection and wrap-up

    • 8pm: Dinner and rest

Warm-Up: Each member of the ensemble is expected to lead at least one hour-long workshop as a warm-up and to share creative practices and languages as we begin our work together.

Excursions: We will coordinate two full-day excursions to nearby points of interest to help participants not only soak in the local culture, but also gain inspiration for our collective work.

Performance: There will be three public performances of the completed piece at the 2025 Trinacria Arts Festival at the conclusion of the residency. These performances will be held in open, outdoors, public spaces for local audiences. There may be opportunities for future touring of the work.

Festival: In addition to performing, artists are joyfully invited to participate in the other community-based events that make up Festival programming. Artists are also warmly welcome to contribute to Festival programming in other ways (such as offering yoga lessons, leading arts & crafts activities, facilitating workshops, exhibiting artwork, performing music, etc.) though this is not a requirement for participation.

Everything else: For all other expectations about the location, housing, work spaces, meals, accessibility, transportation, language, technology, etc. please carefully read the FAQs on this page.
