Meet The 2022 Trinacria-Brandeis Company Managers in Training

After an extensive selection process, where we met an incredible number of talented and passionate Brandeis students, we are very pleased to introduce to you our Company-Managers-in-Training for the 2022 Summer Creative Residency in Sicily: D’Jassie Barham and Lang Cheng!

Lang and D'Jassie will be completing a series of pre-residency trainings before joining Trinacria Theatre Company in Sicily this summer for the first year of our Company Management Training Program. The Program is generously funded by the Italian Studies Department at Brandeis University, and would not be possible without the hard work and support of Prof. Paola Servino and Iyvon E. (Brandeis ‘13).

Learn more about Lang & D’Jassie below!

Meet Lang

My name is Lang Cheng and I am a second-year student at Brandeis University. I am double-majoring in Environmental Studies and Italian Studies and minoring in Climate Justice, Science, and Policy. On campus, I am involved with the Southeast Asia Club and enjoy attending events hosted by other cultural organizations to learn more about different traditions and values. I am also part of the Herbicide-Free Brandeis, an environmental organization that is advocating for Brandeis to transition from using synthetic herbicides to sustainable, organic landscaping methods. Off campus, I work at the Lemberg Children's Center and in my free time, I like doing jigsaw puzzles, watching horror movies with friends, and listening to cantopop. I am from Medford, Massachusetts but I was born and grew up in Canton, China, so I am also a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese. I am passionate about sustainability, languages, and culture, so I am really excited to meet and work with everyone in Sicily this summer and to immerse myself in Sicilian culture and dialect!!

Meet D’Jassie

My name is D’Jassie Barham and I am from Brooklyn, New York. I am currently a junior at Brandeis University. I am majoring in Psychology. My interests include expanding my knowledge of the way experiences impact mental health and reading and discussing different aspects of social justice. Some things I love are reading poetry, going on bike rides, and spending time with my family and friends. I am very excited to partake in this experience, and looking forward to meeting everyone and absorbing Sicilian culture during this residency!
